US President Donald Trump has declared that the entire Palestinian population of Gaza should leave so that the US can take control and establish a real estate development project. In effect this plan calls for the ethnic cleansing of Gaza, continued war in the strip in order to carry it out, and the eventual completion of the genocide that Israel has been carrying out for 15 months.
This blatantly violates international law and promises to cause chaos all across the Middle East. But the Australian government has failed to express any condemnation. Instead, Albanese simply reiterated Labor’s official support for the failed two-state solution, even as other world leaders and the UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories have responded with outrage.
Days have passed and Albanese has still failed to condemn the criminal plans. This is despite the fact that Trump’s plan obviously sabotages any Palestinian state, which was supposed to include Gaza.
His statement also continued to claim longstanding support for a ceasefire, even after he sent Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus to visit Israel last month to declare the government’s “deep and enduring” friendship while it was still bombing Gaza.
This silence speaks volumes about Albanese’s determination to continue backing US- imperialism even as Trump runs riot. The AUKUS pact will only further Australian support for US aggression both in the Middle East and against China.
We call upon the government to:
- Condemn Trump’s plan to ethnically cleanse Gaza and take it under US control
- Scrap the AUKUS pact
- Break the US alliance and close all US military bases on Australian territory
